Single Source of Truth
The website's primary purpose is to provide a single location for all Cherrybrook Probus content. For example, information about Members, Committee Members and Activity Leaders should all come from the same place.
A Google Sheets spreadsheet has been linked to the website to achieve this. A master membership list is used to create additional tabs on the spreadsheet using formulas to replicate and filter content. Why use Google Sheets instead of Microsoft Excel when the latter is provided as part of the Club’s Microsoft 365 licence?
Google Sheets is a cloud-based application that natively integrates into Squarespace. Here’s how it works:
The original membership list (an Excel file) is imported into Google Sheets
Additional tabs are created, drawing content from the master sheet. If changes are made to that master sheet, they are automatically reflected in subsequent tabs.
The master sheet contains a column indicating whether Members agree to have their information published on the website. By default, the response is ‘YES,’ but there is a feature on the website for members to opt out. This does not apply to Committee Members or Activity Leaders, who must be contactable by other members. NOTE: this list is only available to members and is secured via a password,
